Summer Days Wedding Styling Competition…
What do “Summer Days” mean to you?
To me, Summer evokes a feeling of nostalgia & memories of long, sun drenched days spent at the beach as a child, salty afternoon breezes, a beautiful picnic on the sand, sunkissed skin, simplicity, pure bliss…
When planning your wedding it’s so important to think about how you want your ceremony & reception to make you/your guests feel. How do the surroundings represent you and your fiance as a couple and which decor elements will help convey this. Start by making a list of the words & emotions you feel represent you and begin the process from there.
We asked a selection of the industry’s top wedding stylists what “Summer Days” means to them, & challenged each stylist to create a beautiful wedding table setting that represented that feeling. The results are simply breathtaking.
If you’re a newly engaged bride planning a beachside wedding or a summer garden soiree, you’re going to love the creative styling that have been put together for you in our Summer Days Wedding Styling Competition!

Summer Days are… Sun lit afternoons
“The inspiration behind this table came from the fresh pairing of green (representing the country) and navy (representing the ocean) two integral parts of summer. For the flowers I used fresh white delphiniums and chrysies with green blackberries. Berries are a huge part of summer and I always know the season has arrived when I see the shelves full of berries in the super market. I think this table has a tropical feel because of the green and the white and the hint of navy makes it a little sophisticated. The tiny wooden pegs and the cutlery tied with linen ribbon make me think of dinner parties outside in the hazy afternoons and I’ve mixed textures like white washed wood and baskets with smoked taupe glass and French ceramics to give a casual but elegant feel.” - Kristy Marek, Imbue Weddings

Summer Days are… Oceans of Love
“Summer to me is the ocean. We all share an edge of this beautiful sea, with so many others on this earth. Can’t help but be swept away to all the summers of the World. My inspiration for my setting takes me to the retreats in Mauritius, surf of Morocco and to the seaside of France. Summer to me is dining by the sea on an exotic balmy night. Summer to me is laughter and the perfect scene for a chic wedding. Summer to me is style, its white and its gold, its rustic but fresh, ivory ocean coral, fine white linen fabric, vintage rattan and weathered timber. Summer to me is a perfect sweet scented field rose. Summer to me is the harmony of sun kissed skin, a Gardenia laden evening sea breeze and the taste of champagne.” - Rouba Alamein, The Style Salon
“When I think of entertaining in the summer, what comes to mind are images of a warm, lackadaisical evening outdoors. Summer nights have always held a certain enchantment for me, with the potential for a magical evening spent amongst good friends, freshly prepped in-season food and a bottle or two of wine. This inviting imagery of an midsummer night’s party was the inspiration for our tablescape design.
An aqua, lavender and pewter color scheme plays to the enchanted feel of a warm summer evening, and we introduced a bit of sparkle and shine in the form of crystal candlesticks and vintage mercury glass containers for the florals. Lavender scabiosa, multicolored hydrangea, dusty miller, privet berries, purple cabbage and foliage create a richly textured floral design that looks as if it was casually picked from a summer garden and quickly arranged before guests arrived.
I chose a casual linen tablecloth in a flax color, and paired it with wooden farm-style chairs to maintain a warm, inviting feel despite the upscale touches in the tablescape design (the crystal candlesticks and mercury glass vases). Linen strips of fabric were wrapped around tall glass bottles filled with lavender sparkling lemonade, and the bottles were finished off with a sprig of summery foliage as a pretty accent.
Our bride was styled as a nature-loving nymph of a bride, complete with a headpiece created with scabiosa, hydrangea, cabbage heads and dusty miller.” – Yelena Johnson, The Stylish Soiree
To replicate this sense of fun, a wedding table designed specifically for children was created. An old wooden door, featuring great lines and texture was sourced by Oscar and Ruby. Paired with some reclaimed turned wooden legs and painted a high gloss white we had a nice bright base for all the colourful details!
Vintage ice-cream sundae glasses served as perfect vessels for bright coloured crayons, metallic picnic cups added a little bling and were a great contrast to the wooden table.
The backdrop created from strips of ribbon and lace replicates the rows of ice cream flavours and follows the colour palette used on the table. The tableware features vintage china in creamy shades, placed on chalky white plates by Vera Wang. Mis-matched napery and cutlery painted white helps to create a child-friendly casual vibe whilst not being typically childish.
The table, finished off with bright pops of colour from the freshly picked dahlias, and creamy shades of white and butter yellow roses, is a little wedding guests delight! Yum!” – Jessica Anderson, Oscar & Ruby
“Inspired by the French Riviera and sophistication of Ralph Lauren, the presented design encapsulates the timeless colour palette of navy, red, blue and white thus evoking the flair and frivolity forever linked to the summertime guests of Saint-Tropez!
The table is set for a seaside wedding lunch – expected to continue well into the evening. The design incorporates nautical elements to represent the fresh, romantic ambiance of the seaside – juxtaposed with deep, bold, powerful blooms aimed to entice even the most discerning guest. Flickering candle light creates a dreamy mood and atmospheric romance. Champagne goblets adorn the setting, to ensure divine sparkling wine can be consumed under the summer sun. Garden chairs dressed with fun striped cushions create the guest seating and hand dressed napkins are the finishing touch.
One can only imagine the jet setters and social royalty that will be welcomed to the event! With the carpet laid, the champagne flowing, the sweet tunes of summer playing and most importantly the table set – the event is ready to begin!
The true essence of summer love!” – Jane Irvine, Romeo’s Chair

This table concept brings together the vintage florals of the family beach house where lifelong memories are made…the colours of a season in which we have permission to slow down and be in the moment with family.
The soft blues of the ocean and cloudless sky sit in sublime synergy with the corals of a Summer sunset. Fresh raspberries and watermelon are the perfect partner for a crisp, cold crystal glass of vintage Champagne, as the Summer wedding reception unfolds into the balmy evening.
This wedding is feminine, led by a bride who remembers the joys of childhood summers…her groom inspired by the free spirit with which she lives her life.
The concept is personal and economical, this couple treasure the simple joys most of all…they want to reflect the true meaning of Summer Days in every little detail of their celebration. To them it is not about excess, it is about careful and authentic planning with meticulous expression of their relationship and their love for family and friends.
Summer Days remind them of the night they met, the beach house they share with extended family and the carefree ambience of lives lived with passion.
The tables are set on long white trestle with mismatched vintage floral fabrics. Peonies and gardenias are presented in cages, mismatched glass bottles and vintage crystal vases. There is a sense of colour and fun, nothing too serious or regimented in the layout or placement. Vintage silver cutlery, mismatched china and teacups are used to display and present a simple sweet treat with treat bags. Watermelon and fresh raspberries are served to accompany vintage Champagne as the reception begins.
It is informal, intimate, authentic and a little whimsical.” – Lisa Humphries, Joy and Me
