Fashion Illustration
Today I received an email from photographer Sybil Steele, with a guest post I had asked her to write a little while ago. I’m always excited about incorporating other people’s perceptions & styles into my website & when I opened the file of images Sybil sent through I fell in love. Sybil brought my attention to the breathtaking work of some incredibly talented fashion illustrators. For me, I was brought right back to the first consultation I had with designer Alex Perry for my wedding dress, it was his amazing sketches that I fell in love with. It’s one of the most exciting things about having your wedding gown made by a designer, and a fantastic keepsake. The perception stages of any creative project is always so intriguing to me, whether they be fashion sketches, invitation designs, or a page full of scribbled words, ideas & dreams… out of which some of the most famous, artistic work has been born…
“I remember when I hosted my girlfriend Laura’s bachlorette party a few years ago. My uber talented artist friend Diemmi sketched up a glamourous figure in which we emblazoned on a shiny wine colored card stock over layed with vellum and dared: If you are going to get into trouble, it must be at the Chateau Marmont.
I remember how fond I was of that invite, a little piece of art sent to each of Laura’s best friends. It’s from this seedling that I appreciate not only the value of invites (forget EVITE for the pre festivities ladies) but also the talents of numerous fashion illustrators that can take my breathe away the same way a photo can. Whether you have the simple chic sketches of Garance Dore, to the rich luxurious pieces from Danny Roberts, to the whimsical and ultra fashionable drawings of Kelly Smith to the retro inspired divine ink and watercolor dribbles of Leigh Viner, each brings out a unique style that can inspire. And yes we did get into a lot of trouble at the Chateau Marmont

Inspired by Sybil’s post, I put together a gallery of my favourite designer bridal sketches on The LANE ♥

incredible! what an awesome post! i actually came on here to steal a couple of sybils images from l’amant to share on my blog and was surprised with this! inspired to sketch again!! xxx
Love these! Especially the latter few that are more unfinished sketches. I couldn’t agree more, the initial stage of conceptual sketches, notes, imagery, mood, etc. so simply and beautifully captures the essence of an idea. Thanks for the generous compliments, Sybil. You’re creativity is an inspiration to so many of us.

Absolutely LOVE this post! So beautiful. I too am feeling the urge to whip out my pencils and hit the paper again. Thanks for the inspiration!
Those are almost annoyingly good! Very impressive work you’ve shown here. Thumbs up and thank you for the inspiring images.

That first dress is absolutely gorgeous! Is there anyway to actually find that in a store?
